Hidden away in a bamboo grove in the mountains nearby Ibaraki, is a small treasure called Madamamura. A restaurant fashioned from 300-year-old farmhouses serves fine natural food in a magical place. This is the kind of place to restore yourself and your senses.
The poet Sakamura who started Madamamura unfortunately passed away on December 11, but the restaurant will continue.
The schedule for the holidays is as follows: Closed from December 29 (Fri) through January 3 (Wed). Open again from January 4 (Thu)

Although the site is mainly in Japanese, there is a short explanation in quaint English:
“Turn back the clock thousands of years into the ancient and sacred place of old Japan.
There no time exists Ancient people lived in harmony with love and respect for all living things. This place is called Madamamura(to become one with nature, cleanse one’s soul). Madamamura which is built in a style used during the prehistoric Jomon period.
The house is constructed with recycled old woods.
Madamamura is located in ‘Sendaiji’ in the northern part of Ibaraki City. This part of Osaka Prefecture has a nostalgic feeling due to its continuous fields and rice paddies located on rolling hills. The district is also known as ‘Hidden Village of Christians’. This sacred and mysterious area is the home to ancient burial mounds and historical ruins.
After traveling down a road that gose through a grove of bomboo tress that Sway in the breeze, you will arrive at a thatch roofed structure with earthen walls. That is Madamamura.”
