A section dedicated to foreign language books has been set up on the 3rd floor of the Yokohama City Central Library, expanding the library’s support for foreign language speaking citizens.
The new section holds 10,000 books, 142 magazines and 28 newspapers. The selection includes 7,670 books that are either published abroad or translations of Japanese books. There are also 1,569 publications with local information and information to support the daily life of foreign residents. Of these, 800 books are Japanese language-learning materials. 1,181 items come from Shanghai, concerning the sister-city relationship.
The newspaper section holds papers in English, Malay, Tagalog, Thai, and Indonesian.
Together with Naka Library, which holds 8,200 foreign language books, Yokohama City Central Library is now a base for support for foreign language speaking citizens.
Collections by language are as follows: 1,686 Chinese, 520 Korean, 5,750 English, 290 German, 309 French, 69 Spanish, 36 Italian, 37 Russian, 118 other languages and 1,605 parallel translations.
