Piqniq is a social network for English-speaking families living in Japan. The site’s goal is to create a Japan-specific online community and information resource to help you and your family get things done in a country where simple tasks can easily become complicated.
The colorful and simple Web site features blogs, a forum and a link directory. Discussions focus on making life easier and locating hard-to-find things.
Joseph Miller, team leader for the site, was recently interviewed by Yomiuri Daily News: “If you want jobs or if you’re looking for an apartment, it’s pretty straightforward. But if you’re looking for a list of international schools or family-friendly parks, family-friendly restaurants, there’s information out there, but it’s kind of scattered and out of date, so we thought there’d be a need.”
Piqniq now has about 1,700 members. The majority are parents in their 30s or 40s who live throughout Japan.
