Support for an important project

I received an appeal on behalf of Jason Hubbard, the husband of one of my sister’s best friends. Jason has been conducting a study for the past 20 years to establish a detailed cartobibliography of European maps of Japan between 1500 -1800. It is an impressive work which has the honour of being issued by the University of Utrecht as part of their renowned scientific Explokart series.

Everything was ready to go, up to the proofing stage, when the sponsor Océ, who had made a commitment for 20,000 Euro, suddenly withdrew and publication came to a halt. The total cost of publication is around 100,000 Euro, but 80% of that is spoken for, so that there is that outstanding amount of 20,000 Euro (a little over 2 million yen). If you or your company might be interested in supporting this project, whether in total or in part, or if you know of someone or some institution that might be, please contact me at visscher37(at)gmail.com. You can rest assured that any contribution will be gratefully accepted and duly acknowledged.
