'Nederlandse dag' op wereldtentoonstelling
Op 19 april vindt op de wereldtentoonstelling in Aichi de ‘Nederlandse dag’ plaats. Die dag is het 405 jaar geleden dat de eerste Nederlanders met het zeilschip De Liefde in Japan arriveerden.

Himeji City is organizing its second “The Matsuri Yatai in Himeji” Festival on Saturday June 4. Matsuri Yatai are the huge wooden festival floats that are carried by men in loin cloths.
Hirado herbouwt historisch Nederlands pakhuis
In 1639 bouwde de VOC op het Japanse eilandje Hirado een groot Nederlands pakhuis. Het was het allereerste westerse gebouw in het keizerrijk. Met drie verdiepingen en een lengte van 29 meter domineerde het de haveningang van Hirado. Het torende hoog uit boven de eenvoudige houten huizen van de eilandbewoners. Dit verontruste Japanse leiders. Drie maanden na voltooing bevalen zij de Nederlanders het gebouw af te breken. Daarna werden ze van het eiland geschopt. Nu, meer dan 360 jaar later, wil Japan dit pakhuis weer opbouwen.

Hyogo Prefectural Museum of Art will host an exhibition of 17th century artworks from the Amsterdams Rijksmuseum later this year. The exhibition will take place from October 25 through January 15, 2006.
